Colorado Government Spending Outpaces Population Growth by 369 Percent

Holy Government Growth, Batman!  It’s like a malignant tumor.  Did you know that government spending outpaced state population growth by nearly four times?  Can you even believe it?  I had no idea things were this bad.

I was doing some research for a post on the various state proposals offered to voters in November, when I found this ridiculous ratio between government spending and population growth.

Here are the data:

Colorado Spending (from usgovernmentspending.com):
1980:  $940,000,000
2009:  $6,034,000,000
Growth Rate:  642%

Colorado Population (from Google’s U.S. Census compilation):
1980:  2,889,735
2009:  5,024,748
Growth Rate:  174%

Spending-to-Population Growth Rate:  369%

Can you believe that?  Isn’t this plenty of evidence that our government is addicted to spending your money?  Isn’t it odd that the government can grow at rates like these that is not only several times the rate of population growth, but in a time when the U.S. standard of living is facing such harsh declines?  How can this possibly be sustained?  (It cannot.)

I’d encourage you to join me in voting this November for smaller government.  Let’s do what we can to stop the spread of this parasitic government cancer.  If we don’t act soon enough, the host may die.
